Christmas Shooting!

In many places the holidays often bring about an increase in negative social behaviors: theft, violence, depression, suicide, etc. I have even read about Salvation Army Santas being held at gunpoint to steal their collections for the poor. You may also have heard about "Santarchy".... the international fraternity of disgruntled scrooges who dress up in Santa costumes and then go on drunken rampages through their communities, vandalizing and looting, in an attempt to protest the commercialization of Christmas!

So, I suppose it wouldn't surprise anyone to see a headline that said "Christmas Shooting!"

Well, fortunately, this headline is not another bad news story about holiday violence. Rather it is a good news report about a recent VIDEO shoot that took place at our WMC studios in Manila. We had the priviledge of hosting the CBN-Asia production crew for a whole day of taping for their weekly "OneCubed" program, featuring the Filipino band Manna and a youth dance troupe, spinning Christmas-colored hoola hoops! It was a fun-filled day...all dedicated to proclaiming the real Good News (God with Us!) over the Television airwaves in the Philippines.

Enjoy the picture tour of that Christmas video shoot, and check out CBN Asia's website for more information about their programming and ministries: www.cbnasia.org

Building Bridges! (http://www.apnts.org/news/bridge-v4n3.php)

Good communication is all about finding common ground with others. Especially now in our war-torn, racially & religiously divided world, we need to find common ground...we need to build bridges. And that is exactly what Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) is trying to do: "Bridging Cultures for Christ."

We know that Christ himself is the bridge between a holy God and humanity (I Timothy 2:5). And we know that he has called each of us to be bridge builders...to create avenues whereby the people around us can see, hear and find Christ (II Corinthians 5:12-21).

God bless you as you build bridges of peace and love.

Check out this link to our latest newsletter / website for APNTS.

Enjoy...and let me know what you think of "The Bridge."

Fall Media Ministry Update

Furlough was great! 7 months of living in Mt. Vernon, Ohio (near most of Doug's family), teaching 3 courses at MVNU, getting to see snow, and traveling to 50 churches in 10 States! We returned to Manila in August and time has sped by.

It's been awesome to see the new Regional Communication Center facilities fully in use, and the staff busy at work on several new projects. Most of these were initiated by our staff while we were on furlough. So it’s great to see leaders emerging. God is really using this place and his people to bless others. Here are a few highlights of some of our projects.

  • A weekly recording contract with “White Windows” – recording a daily 8-minute Filipino program (Workshop ATBP) that “airs” every morning before work, in over 10 factories (with over 150,000 employees) !
  • Video / Film Translation projects from Korean to English/Tagalog for “White Windows” to reach the Filipino masses.
  • Monthly taping for CBN-Asia’s “One Cubed” youth TV program. They’re shooting all their shows and their music videos (including live multi-tracking), with some pretty big Filipino artists….in our studio. Our staff is learning from them how to do TV production! So it’s ministry to Filipino youth, plus income for ministry expenses, plus training for staff! Pretty cool!
  • Weekly recording of a program (in partnership with SIL & TEAM) to reach an M people group! And we are using M voice talents to do the recording….and on occasion he joins us for our morning prayer times when he come to record! Amazing! (Remember this is one of those specific areas we spoke with you about, where we felt God challenging us to step out in faith…and He is really proving faithful to His promises – Isaiah 55:5)
  • Monthly taping of a 12-part church planting video series (Natural Church Development) with “Philippine Challenge”, which includes live audience lectures, drama inserts, etc. This could have wide distribution to thousands of churches, which will result in the planting of hundreds of new churches!
  • Taping of a lecture series on "Contextualized Ministry to Ms" with Dr. Phil Parshal. The video interactive video materials will be available for release in early 2006.
  • A series of recording sessions for a Korean worship band called “Joy Worshippers”
  • The recording of a new Tagalog family radio program called “Rated PG” (Parental Guidance)
  • The recording of a new short Tagalog radio devotional program called “Life in a Minute."
  • Plus all the other broadcasts that we’ve been doing all along for our current radio programs (Perfect Rhythm, Take Five, etc)
  • Production of an NMI feature video about our growing church in the Solomon Islands
  • Development of a new ministry brochure for WMC-AP.
  • Launching of a new website for WMC-AP (www.wmc-ap.org).
  • Launching of a new website for NYI-AP
  • Updating of website for APNTS (www.apnts.org)
  • Recording of a demo album for the Filipino band "R.O.C.K."
  • Some of our students who have come here to be trained (short term and full graduate program) are being used by God in their own countries to do some incredible work:
o Daniel Ekka in PNG – developing a team of 40 people to produce a new women’s program called “Krai Bilong ol Mari” (Women’s Cry) to deal specifically with women’s issues – has been very well received in its first month.
o Panasda (who happened to deliver her first baby in our bedroom last Dec. 24th, while we were already in the States)– a student from Thailand, producing program inserts from here that benefit their radio programs being broadcast to Buddhist youth in Thailand
o Nunuk / Yanes / Vera – expanding radio ministry in Indonesia to new stations with new programs, reaching M youth (in fact one of our newest programs is bringing the message of peace to a location that has the 2nd highest rate of violence between Christians and Ms!)
o Sese – a student from Samoa, is working with his South Pacific leaders to assist in the production of new programs for Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands
